froglogic’s Squish Supports Automated GUI Testing on Symbian’s S60 Platform

Hamburg, Germany March 24, 2009 – froglogic has announced that Squish, its automated GUI testing tool, now supports Symbian’s S60 platform.

S60 software on the Symbian operating system is the world’s most popular software platform for smartphones. S60 supports adding new applications to mobile devices, provides support for handling concurrent tasks, and keeps users connected to their favorite Internet services. S60 devices include a variety of built-in features from messaging and calendaring to a wide range of personalization options and advanced web browsing.

Squish is a professional, cross-platform GUI and regression testing tool that enables testers to create and execute automated GUI tests for applications based on a variety of different GUI technologies. This includes applications based on Nokia’s Qt, Java SWT/Eclipse RCP, Java AWT/Swing, Web/HTML/AJAX, and many other UI technologies. Squish stands out from other GUI test tools thanks to its close integration with each supported GUI technology—a feature which helps ensure that tests created with Squish are very robust and stable.

froglogic supports a wide range of desktop and embedded platforms for automated GUI testing and is the market leading GUI testing tool for Qt-based applications. Following Nokia’s Qt strategy, froglogic has now added support for the testing of Qt applications on Symbian S60, the platform used by the majority of Nokia’s smartphones.

Squish’s support for tesing Qt applications on Symbian S60 devices, added to Squish’s existing support for a wide range of desktop and embedded platforms, underlines Squish’s leading position in the cross-platform GUI test tool market.

“Having already added support for testing Qt applications on Nokia’s Maemo platform, we have now added support for testing on the most popular smartphone platform in use today: Symbian S60. Once Nokia added the Qt GUI toolkit to the Symbian S60 system, it was the next logical step for us to extend Squish’s portfolio of supported platforms and technologies to include the S60 platform.” —Harri Porten, froglogic’s Platform Chief

A prototype of Squish for Qt on Symbian S60 has been completed. A final version of Squish for Qt on the S60 will be included in the upcoming Squish 4.0 release.
